Hagan Dentistry

What can I do to alleviate pain or discomfort before my appointment?

If you have a toothache and are medically able, we recommend NSAIDs like ibuprofen. If you are on blood pressure medication, your doctor may have a different recommendation since they can contraindicate. You can also try rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater. For swelling, we suggest periodic ice packs applied to the face.

Your emergency dentist in Kingsport, TN, will see you as soon as possible. In fact, we set aside time in the daily schedule to accommodate dental emergencies.

What Is Considered a Dental Emergency

A dental emergency typically means tooth pain and swelling or a knocked-out tooth. Cracked and broken restorations are emergencies if accompanied by pain or swelling.

Store a knocked-out tooth in a glass of milk or saliva for potential resetting. Sometimes our dentist can save a knocked-out tooth!

You can lower your risks for most dental emergencies through the following:

  • Six-month dental cleanings and exams with the dentist
  • Brushing your teeth at least twice daily
  • Flossing your teeth at least twice daily
  • Wearing a mouthguard during athletics
